Our 2026 Open Call for a 2027 residency will be announced later this autumn.

Each year, Arctic Canvas offers one Open Call for a funded two-week artist residency in West Iceland, providing the selected artist or artist duo with their own private, self-contained studio and living space, surrounded by nature.

​

Arctic Canvas welcomes artists working across a broad range of disciplines and practices. For our upcoming Open Call, however, we are planning a more focused call centred around one particular field of practice. More details will be announced soon.

Our residencies are generally open to:

• Writers

• Visual artists — including painting, illustration, photography, textiles, sculpture and design

• Performing artists — including dance, music and performance

• Botanical and environmental artists

• Interdisciplinary and experimental practices — including work that bridges art and science

​

Last year’s selected artists were director/photographer artist duo Merel Klomp and Elmar Janse, who came to Arctic Canvas to continue developing their ongoing Glacier Project. Their time in Snæfellsnes extended beyond the residency itself, culminating in an exhibition and artist talk at the Snæfellsjökull National Park Visitor Centre
